Hope in the Holidays

Hope in the holidays

How does it work?

After a successful turnout for the Spring CAL we have decided to host another Holiday themed blanket. This years theme was based upon the prompt ‘Home for the Holidays’. So from December 2nd until January 1st each designer will be presenting an 8×8 inch square with their own personalised design. All these squares can be combined together to create a blanket. You can use all of them, or a combination of your favourites to create an amazing heirloom.

Each days featured designer will be giving their design away as a FREE PDF download. To get the free downloads you will need to visit this page each day of the month, where the pattern will be posted at 8am EST with the coupon code required to download their pattern. On each designers blog you will find the following button to lead you to their store.

Make sure you apply the coupon code in your shopping cart as prompted.

If you would like to get daily reminders for your squares you can follow this page by signing up to my newsletter and follow along on Instagram.

Supplies
To make it easier to follow along all designers worked from the same yarn palette. Some squares could include up to 4 colours, while others may have only 1.
We used Mighty Stitch yarn, which we were very lucky to have donated to us by We Crochet.

The colours chosen were as follows,

Black, Chocolate, Love Letter, Oyster, Silver, Spruce and White.

If you would like to join in the CAL, join the CAL group over on Facebook. This is where you can ask any questions you may have on the patterns and share your blanket progress. You can also Make along with us on Instagram using the hashtags #bearryeCALs #Hopeintheholidays and #bearrye . I will be sharing all your makes in my stories so everyone can make together!

Falling For Textures Blanket CAL

Textured Crochet
Blanket

As Summer is over and it turns to Autumn its time for another blanket CAL! For those who missed our Winter Wonderland Blanket or don’t know, CAL is short for Crochet Along This time I am part of a 5 designer team working with the Pineapple and Pine CAL group. For 5 weeks each designer will be releasing 3 blanket squares that can be seamlessly combined to make a beautiful blanket.

How it works

Each week a new designer will be releasing 3 10 x 10 inch texture patterns for free on their blog, with an option to purchase a PDF format. For my squares, you will head back to this page to see the new squares as they release. Alternatively, if you do not want to wait to receive each design, or would just love to support the designers you can also purchase a bundle of all the patterns right now at a 50% discount!

Buy the bundle now!

The Yarn

The lovely team over at Wecrochet was kind enough to donate the yarn needed to create this project. We used approximately 4576yards of Mighty Stitch yarn in Cream. All the designs together will make a 50 x 70 inch blanket, but if you don’t want to make something quite as large head over to Kelsies page below, where she has detailed some alternative sizes and how many squares you will need to make.

Week 1

August 31st- September 6th

The first week was hosted by Kelsie of Crafting for Weeks. You can go over to her page to see the first three patterns and to learn a lot more detail about the CAL, as well as some alternative blanket sizes.

Week 2

September 7th- September 13th Hosted by Claire at Bear Rye.

See all three squares below.

Week 3

September 14 – September 20 hosted by Emily of Hooked Hazel

Week 4

September 21 – September 27 hosted by Rachel of Cozy Nooks Designs

Week 5

September 28 – October 4th hosted by Sarah of A Plush Pineapple

Sneaky Embroidery

Embroidered Roses

This is my second square for the In Bloom Blanket CAL. Today I chose to use a mix of crochet and embroidery. I love doing crossover projects and the best part of this is the embroidery is so simple you do not need to be an expert sewer to make these roses!
To grab this square as a free PDF download, head over to the main CAL page to grab the download code, then use that code in my Ravelry store. (Valid 4/27/2020 until 11am EST 4/28/2020).

Supplies

This pattern uses Mighty Stitch which was generously donated by WeCrochet to each of the designers in the In Bloom CAL

For this square you will need the colours;
Alfalfa, Cream, Mulberry and Sky
Hook: 4mm
Notions: Yarn needle, stitch marker, measuring tape, scissors.

Gauge
4×4’ = 19 stitches by 20 rows of sc.

Abbreviations
Ch. Chain
Dc. Double crochet
Sc. Single crochet
St. Stitch

Set up

To make main square.
In Cream Ch 36. Turn.
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook, sc 4, *dc 5, sc 5*. Repeat * across. Ch3, turn (36sts).
Row 2: Skip first sc, dc 4, *sc 5, dc 5*. Repeat * across. Ch 1, turn (36sts).
Row 3: Sc 5 * dc 5, sc 5*. Repeat * across. Ch 3, turn (36sts).
Row 4-30: Repeat rows 2-3 until you reach row 30.
Finish leaving a long tail. Weave in ends.

To Add Roses.
For the roses we are incorporating an embroidery technique. You can add as many or a few roses to the square as you like. I chose to add 5 to my square.
Step 1: Create a star shape using 5 straight stitches, I made mine roughly 1 inch each, if you want smaller roses make these stitches shorter. Using a contrasting colour of yarn (this makes it easier to see where you are weaving in the next step).
Step 2: Using your main colour for your rose, thread a yarn needle with a generous amount of yarn. Start by weaving under your first stitch, then over the second. Continue this around the 5 stitches.
Step 3: Continue weaving under and over each consecutive stitch until your rose is nice and full and the guide stitches are covered.
Step 4: Finish off by stitching under the rose a couple of times and cut yarn.
Adding Leaves

Using Alfalfa attach yarn to square as close to the edge of the rose using a surface sc. Surface Sc 3 more times. Ch 1, turn, going down one side of the previous sc, sc, dc, hdc, sc in each sc across. Slip st into main square, cut yarn and weave in ends.
In my example I have shown what it looks like to have two leaves on each rose, one leaf or non. I personally prefer the one leaf, but this is completely customizable.
This Square is part of the In-Bloom Blanket CAL. Head over to my blog to view all of the floral squares we have on offer! Don’t forget to tag any of your completed makes with #bearrye, #inbloomblanketcal or #springbloomsblanketcal

Make Blue bells
Make a Magic Circle, Ch 1, 6sc in the ring. Pull tight to close. DO NOT SLIP STITCH TO FINISH.

Row 4: sc in each st across (6sts).
Row 5: 2 sc in each st across (12sts).
Row 6: *4sc in next st, ss in next*. Repeat * across. (30sts).
Tie off leaving a long tail, this is to be able to stitch onto your main square. I made a total of 3 bluebells, but you could make up to 6 to attach onto the main square.

Attaching your bluebells.

Using long tail sew the ends through the square near the colour 2 portion of the design. This gives the appearance that the bluebells are dangling off the main stalk. Repeat across for each bluebell, sew in ends and cut to finish.

There you have a beautiful bluebell square to add to your blanket! To find the rest of the squares to complete our In Bloom Blanket head over to https://www.bearrye.com/2020/03/in-bloom-spring-blanket-cal.htmlwhere you will find more squares from 22 different designers.

In Bloom, a Spring Blanket CAL

In Bloom, A Spring Themed Blanket Crochet Along 2020

Wow, I’m sure this Spring is not turning out how anyone was expecting it to. With most of us stuck inside social distancing this is the best time for us to turn to our hobbies to fill the time. I first started crocheting as a form of therapy to keep my mind calm in times of stress and have felt myself turning to this to keep my days feeling normal in these uncertain times.

For the month of April me and some amazing designers have collaborated together to make an amazing mystery blanket that we hope you will all enjoy. The theme all the designers were given was “In bloom” and they did not disappoint when it came to creativity.

How does it work?

From April 1st until April 30th each designer will present an 8×8 inch square representing the Spring season. All these squares can be combined together to create a personalised blanket. You can use all of them, or a combination of your favourites to create an amazing heirloom.

Each days featured designer will be giving their design away as a FREE PDF download. To get these free downloads visit page each day of the month, where the pattern will be posted daily at 8am EST. If you would like to get daily reminders for your squares you can follow this page by signing up to my newsletter and follow along on Instagram.

Spread the word. Pin this page to your favourite Pinterest Board

Spring blanket CAL Pin

What do I need to do?

Every day you will visit this post where you will find the latest pattern. Under each pattern, there will be instructions including a CODE to get the FREE PDF. You will be lead through to the designers’ blog where you will find within their page text that reads “Click HERE to download the free PDF download”. Some designers will be including this free download either directly from their site or through Ravelry.

Supplies

To make it easier to follow along all designers worked from the same yarn palette. Some squares could include up to 4 colours, while others may have only 1.
We used Mighty Stitch yarn, which we were very lucky to have donated to us by We Crochet.

The colours chosen were as follows,

Alfalfa, Ivy, Mulberry, Wisteria, Fairytale, Bubblegum, Celestial, Sky, Cream, Oyster and Canary.

If you would like to join in the CAL, join the CAL group over on Facebook. This is where you can ask any questions you may have on the patterns and share your blanket progress. You can also Make along with us on Instagram using the hashtags #inbloomblanketcal #springbloomsblanketcal and #bearrye . Wheelie Wonderful Square

Wheelie Wonderful Square

This is my second square for the winter wonder squares event, and the second to last square we are releasing. Scroll through the page you will find where it says “FREE RAVELRY DOWNLOAD” most of us use affiliate advertising and would be very appreciative if you would let the ads load while scrolling as this allows us all to benefit from this event.

Design

I wanted to use my second square as a way to add some texture to the blanket and allow for some scrap busting from yarn left over from other squares. I have used the left overs I had from creating my snowman winter wonder square.

How long does it take?

This square may take a little longer to complete since it is a tapestry crochet square. It took me about 3 hours to make, this was taking a little longer as I was correcting mistakes and tweaking the pattern as I went. It is definitely a done in an evening project though.

Don’t have time to make it now? Pin in for later.

To allow me to be able to supply you lovely people free patterns all posts on this site contain Affiliate links and google ads which give me a small commission if you were to purchase the suggested products through them.

If you would prefer to read the pattern unhindered it is also available as an ad free PDF on Ravelry. Click here to purchase. Subscribe to my newsletter using the link on the side of this page to receive a 15% off coupon to my Ravelry store!
