As promised here is my first free pattern. This pattern was made as a newborn hat using Lion Brands Feels Like Butta Yarn which is so soft and easy to work with I just couldn’t resist making a baby hat with it. It produces a perfect lightweight beanie keeping your tiny ones snug but not too hot! You can also purchase an Ad free PDF version over on my Ravelry page. Without further ado, onto the pattern.
Row 2: Ch2, dc around (48sts, 60sts, 60sts, 72sts, 72sts, 72sts).
Repeat rows 1-2 until length of hat measures (3, 3.25, 4.25, 4.75, 5.25, 5.75)
Row-1: Ch2, dc in same space as ch, Join colour B do not cut colour A as we will be alternating between the two yarns. *Puff stitch in next space. dc in the next st*. Repeat * until last stitch. Join (48sts, 60sts, 60sts, 72sts, 72sts, 72sts).
Row 2: Ch2, Puffst in same space, dc in next st*. Repeat until last st. Join (48sts, 60sts, 60sts, 72sts, 72sts, 72sts).
Row 3: Ch2, hdc around. Join in last stitch. DO NOT BREAK YARN. (48sts, 60sts, 60sts, 72sts, 72sts, 72sts).
Start Earflap 1
Row 1: Continue in the last join. Ch2 hdc for 8 sts. Turn (8sts, 8sts, 8sts, 12sts, 12sts, 12sts).
Row 2: Ch2, hdc2tog, hdc to last 2 sts. Hdc2tog. Turn (6sts, 6sts, 6sts, 8sts, 8sts, 8sts).
To find the placement for your second earflap fold the hat in half, you will want to line it up so there are less sts in the back of the head than the front. Join colour A on the RS of your work and work rows 1-6 as in earflap 1.
Cast off and sew in all ends. Finally to add that finishing touch Join colour B and SC around the entire edge of the hat and earflaps. Break yarn and sew in ends.
For advice on exact hat sizing here is the sizing chart I love to use for all my hats.
